Friday Link Love & a Call for Guest Posting

Today I opened up my reader for the first time since before Christmas and really got caught up on my reading. I didn’t realize until I’d started into my overflowing reader, how much I missed my blogging friends! I felt like I was reconnecting to something that I had really been missing for the past week and a half. It was so great to read all of your 2012 wrap ups and 2013 goals – a great way to get back into blog reading in 2013!

Call for Guest Posts

In the next few months I’m going to be doing a fair bit of travelling. I’m going to Dallas for work on January 27th for a week, and then I’m heading to Boston the first week of February for a family vacation.

I’m super excited for both of these trips! During that time, I’m not planning on blogging all that much, so I’d love to have some guest posts going up! If you’re interested in guest posting for me, send me an email at myalternatelifeblog at gmail dot com.

Apparently, I’m No Longer Anonymous

The weirdest thing has been happening to me lately. I’m a big online shopper, so when I got a Nexus 7 tablet for Christmas, I didn’t hesitate to hop online and find a case for it. I ended up ordering this sexy thing from DODOcase.

nexus_eggplant_1024x1024

An awesome tablet cover.

The problem is, when it arrived, it was addressed to:

Jordann *Last Name*
My Alternate Life

How this happened, I have no clue. I didn’t use my blog email address, I didn’t write my blog info anywhere in the information, so why the heck was it addressed to my blog? How did they know? If anyone has any insight into this little mystery, I’d be happy to hear from you.

Now, onto my favourite blog posts this week. You’ll find all of the usual offenders here with their goals, wrap ups, and funny stories. Enjoy!

Blog Posts I Loved

Cait at Blonde on a Budget talks about her goals for 2013. They all seem awesome to me.

John at Frugal Rules doesn’t do new years resolutions. Instead he likes SMART goals. I couldn’t agree more.

Lauren from L Bee and the Money Tree talks about her 2013 goals, including one to stop wasting her time. Great goals Lauren!

Michelle from Making Sense of Cents rocked her December side income goals. That woman is on fire!

Jessica from Mo Money Mo Houses takes an interesting spin on her year in review, including her lows as well as her highs.

Jeremy at Modest Money offers a rare look into his personal life in his recap of 2012.

Bridget at Money After Graduation offers up this awesome video of some cheap music. So cool!

Jefferson at See Debt Run chews his nails! I’m in the same camp, but in the process of trying to quit.

I’d love to do a guest post for you! I’ll be sure to send one over by the end of the day…

That’s really creepy about your name/blog showing up on the address label! Weird!

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

I just replied to your email, I’d love to have you guest post!

  • John S @ Frugal Rules

Thanks so much for the mention Jordann! That really is odd that your blog was included on your address.

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

I know isn’t it? Very weird.

  • http://Www.Plantingourpennies.Com/ Mrs PoP @ PlantingOurPennies

That’s kind of creepy. Was it tied to your Amazon account or something where you’re an affiliate?

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Nope not an Amazon affiliate, but that would make sense.

  • LifeCommaEtc

Are you an Amazon Associate/Affiliate? I think the same thing happened to me and I assumed it was because all that stuff is linked somewhere, somehow… still creepy though! Great list!

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Nope I’m not an Amazon Associate or Affiliate, that would make sense if I was though!

  • http://twitter.com/SenseofCents Michelle

    Thanks for mentioning my post!

And ahhh that scares me about how your blog name was included on the package.

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

I think I’m going to email them and ask them about it.

My wife and I are moving to Dallas this month, we’re stoked! let us know how it goes

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

I certainly will be blogging about my trip once I get back.

    Have a great weekend!

      Thanks!

Dodo cases are rad! Good choice.

I learned the hard way that if you have your gmail accounts linked (ie I send and receive blog email while logged in to my personal email) but you email someone who is NOT using gmail, your real email comes up (says something like realname@gmail sent on behalf of blogemail@gmail in the sender line, rather than masking it entirely).

Also consider whether there is enough info on this blog that could lead someone to identify you via google search,

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Hmm this could be the culprit, because I do have the two emails linked. Good catch! Also, there’s definitely enough info on google to identify me, I’m really only semi anonymous at this point.

  • Hawaii Planner

I’m with eemusings, & have had that happen as well with linked Google accounts.

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Interesting, I’m going to check this out!

  • http://budgetandthebeach.com/ Budget & the Beach

wow that is weird! It makes you wonder about other things that are so easy to find out about you…you know? I’d love to help out but I need to take a step back from blogging in general. Those are going to be crazy work months for me!

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Hey no problem, being busy at work is a great thing for a freelancer!

  • http://www.debtroundup.com/ Grayson @ Debt Roundup

That is weird with the package address. I can see this happening with the google accounts being linked or if you created a business for your blog and used this as an address, then the company can look up the address. If they find that is has a business tied to it, then they can ship it cheaper. It always costs less to ship to a commercial address than to a residential one. This used to happen to me all the time when I had my other business. Just a thought though!

    • http://twitter.com/myalternatlife Jordann

Hey that’s really interesting! I’ll add it to my list of possibilities.

  • http://www.uniquegifter.com/ Anne @ Unique Gifter

Wow, that sure is creepy! I’ll pop you an email about guest posting.
